The Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan (ABGMA) is 416 hectares of natural woodland, stunning gardens and open spaces.

Established as the native garden of the Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust (RGB&DT) in 1988, the site is a celebration of community, culture and the diversity of the Australian environment.

To make the most of the significant growth being seen in Western Sydney, a Concept Masterplan presents a long-term vision for the growth and development of the ABGMA. The Being Group was engaged to provide document design for a Proposition Report presenting the proposed vision and aspiration for the future of the ABGMA.

To position ABGMA as an iconic part of a growing and changing community — as well as a site of national and international significance — document design needed to push the boundaries of the RGB&DT brand in a vibrant, modern direction.

Concepting began with the creation of two different mood boards, both with the goal to deliver a visionary interpretation of the RGB&DT’s style guidelines.

The vibrant design approach exhibits a playful combination of images, shapes and illustration. Bright overlaying elements evoke a sense of celebration, while organic illustrations highlight the relationship between land, community and country.

Featuring complex technical content compiled from various developmental reports, the document is presented in a digestible way, guiding the reader through the content using hierarchies in text, colour and iconography. An earthy colour palette complements the visual appeal of strategic white space, custom illustrations and imagery, which work together to aid readability.

A condensed version of the report for presentation works to effectively engage viewers from the first three slides with continued use of custom illustrations and icons.
